How billing works

Electricity, exactly as metered

Units used = current reading − previous reading. Charge = units × your rate per unit. A reading of 1,000 → 1,050 at Rs. 20 a unit is 50 units, Rs. 1,000 — and that working is printed on the tenant's bill.

Water, two honest modes

With 5 units included, a Rs. 50 base and 7 units used: per excess unit charges Rs. 45 for each of the 2 extra units — Rs. 140 in total. A flat surcharge adds Rs. 45 once — Rs. 95. You pick the mode; the bill says which one was used.

Questions, answered plainly

How is a monthly bill calculated?

Rent plus electricity (units used × your rate), water (flat, per-excess-unit, or flat surcharge — your configured mode), internet and any other charges you set. Every line on the slip shows its working, and the tariff in force when the bill was generated is stored with it, so later tariff changes never rewrite old bills.

What happens if a meter reading is missing?

The bill is marked incomplete and cannot be published. Gharbeti Dai never silently assumes zero consumption — you enter the reading, or use the meter-reset workflow if a meter was replaced.

Can my tenants see how their bill was worked out?

Yes. Tenants see their own itemised bills, readings, payments and receipts, and raise maintenance requests. They cannot see anyone else's records, and they cannot change amounts, readings or tariffs.

How do eSewa and Khalti payments work?

In this version they are recorded manually, like cash and bank transfers: you enter the amount, date and transaction reference, and the tenant's balance updates with a receipt. Nothing is marked paid without a real payment record.

Is my data separate from other landlords?

Completely. Every workspace is isolated on the server — properties, tenants, bills and documents are checked against your organization on every request, not just hidden in the app.
